Week 7 already?

Last Week:  We had a great week doing songs about transportation!  We made a musical train around the room with instruments with "Get on Board".  We played a fun game and read a book with the song "Skip to my Lou".  "Wheels on the Bus" and "Take me Riding in the Car" were fun action songs. We did an "action dance" around the room using our imaginations to take us to different places:  outer space, a peaceful meadow, a room of blue jello!

At Home:  Practice these songs that you remember.  Review ones that we do consistently with your child at home.  Making singing part of your every day routine has been proven to be very beneficial to children! Of course you can add your own verses to "Wheels on the Bus" and "Take Me Riding in the Car".  You can make the musical train at home and sing "Get on Board".

Next Week:  We are going to combine a couple of weeks from our original schedule.  We're going to do "The Very Noisy Night" and add instruments to it!  We're also going to do some animal songs.

**I had said that we would meet in the sanctuary this week but in thinking about how that would work with what we are doing...let's stick to our normal room again this week!  See you soon!

Week 6

Last week was a great week doing songs about outside fun.
Last Week: Learned "Mister Sun" and practiced playing instruments just at particular times (when the sun comes out). This is a great activity for learning to take turns and for preparing for playing different instruments at different times. Also we learned a song about going on a picnic with different foods. We sang "What Shall We Do When We All Go Out?" and acted out our favorite outside activities while we sang. (Riding bikes, swinging, sliding, etc.) We also sang "Bounce High" while bouncing a ball to our moms. We sang a fun song about going fishing and used some movement to it as well!

At Home: "What Shall We Do" is a great simple song for kids to be able to brainstorm different movements to use. "Bounce High" is another song to sing while you are outside playing ball...I thought it was neat that some children were already trying to keep a steady beat while bouncing their ball...not an easy feat!

Next Week: Next week is all about transportation! We're going to do songs about trains, cars, using our bodies for transportation, wagons, etc. We'll read a funny book using one of our songs too! We're going to use instruments on one of our "train trips"...be ready! It's going to be a fun week! We're also going to review some songs that we will be doing at our sharing night on the last night of class. Make sure you have invited family and friends...the original form said April 11 but the sharing night is actually APRIL 18th!

Week 5...

was such a fun week!  We had some very special friends join us and they got to see us sing, dance, and play...and even did some of that with us.

LAST WEEK:  We learned the song Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear and danced it with our stuffed animals.  Reviewed All Around the Brickyard with instruments and The More We Get Together with scarves.  Learned and moved to another friendship song Good Friends Always Stick Together (a great song to sing with Mom!).  We did some free movement to a song from "Spirit" with scarves...and our moms were our copycats!

AT HOME:  Teddy Bear is a great song to sing at home...the melody is very repetitive and the movements are fun!  We are becoming very familiar with All Around the Brickyard and this is an easy song to sing at home while you are doing something..."I'm gonna cook it, cook it, cook it or I'm gonna color, color, color...".   I heard in my house this week "I'm gonna dress up, dress up, dress up".  It's fun for kids to brainstorm different things to do in this song.

NEXT WEEK:  This coming week is all about outside fun...so great for this weather we've been having!  We're going to learn a song about going on picnics using some food to help us out.  We'll also learn a song about playing on the playground, do some dancing with scarves, and play instruments to a song about sunshine.

Looking forward to seeing you Monday evening!

Week 4

LAST WEEK:  We talked about the Circus.  We did the song "Friends in the Circus" and listened for different sounds that we could move to...a trapeze artist climbing up the ladder, a sleeping tiger, a funny clown, a tightrope walker, and a muscle man!  The goal of this is to get kids to recognize those sounds and to just experience different types of movement.  If you noticed, by the end of this activity, lots of kids were "getting it"!  Lots of them could identify most of the sounds and which movement they corresponded to.  We also did a speech piece that went with our Circus song and added instruments to it.  This was a tricky activity, but many kids were also successful here.  I am not looking in these instances for kids to play the correct rhythm of the words, but to start to identify that they don't play on every sound. We also played the game "Wee Willie Winkie".

AT HOME:  Sing, sing, sing!  Make this a part of your everyday life.  Any song you can remember from class, sing it with your child!  You can practice the movements from "Friends in the Circus" and talk about what sound you heard when you did that movement (ex. when the piano played up high it sounded like a tightrope walker).

NEXT WEEK:  Next week is FRIENDSHIP WEEK!  Please being a stuffed "friend" from home...a teddy bear, stuffed animal...your choice.  We'll do some activities with our friends.  We're going to learn a song about Teddy Bears, review the dance The More We Get Together with scarves, and learn a couple new songs about friendship.  We will also have some free movement time and a more structured movement experience.

COMING UP...

Recap and more info coming later today but please note...

THIS WEEK our theme is FRIENDSHIP.  Please bring a stuffed animal friend from home to help us in music this week.  We will meet in our regular room.  More info coming soon!
