THIS WEEK:
Lots of fun with farm animals this week! First we reviewed our Snowflake Dance, and how snowflakes move. This was challenging, but by the end there were some children that were recognizing where to move based on the sound of the music...very impressive! We sang Down on Grandpa's Farm with some farm (stuffed animals). Then we worked on the partner dance "Chook Chook", another very challenging but fun dance. We also sang "I Love My Little Rooster" (great for getting kids to explore different areas of their voice!) and learned "I Had a Little Piggie". At the end we reviewed "All Around the Brickyard" with instruments.
AT HOME:
"I Love My Little Rooster": This is a great song for kids to find their natural singing voice. In our culture, we have a tendency to sing MUCH too low. Our voices are made comfortably to sing higher than you probably think, especially for younger children. Kids voices are all the same at this point...there is no difference in boys' and girls' voices. So practice singing and exploring different animal sounds as long as you are going all the way up to your high voice! We're going to do that song again this week, so if you forget the words, parents :), don't worry!
"All Around the Brickyard": This class HAS to move at such a fast paced to keep kids' attention that it is important for you to sing with your children at home. Hopefully you will remember this song, as it will be one of our constants that we keep going back to. Practice different movement to it (stamp it, hop it, skip it, etc.)
NEXT WEEK:
Please note...We will meet in the SANCTUARY next week! One of our activities will work much better movement wise in the sanctuary so we will start out in there.
This week (I'm sorry I'm getting this up so late!) we are going to do songs about the circus as well as review some songs from previous weeks. We're going to add movement to "I've Got Friends in the Circus". This is a listening activity, so please make sure you are a CAREFUL listener. :) We'll also learn a chant about "Lions and Tigers and Bears" as a B section for our song "The Circus", which we'll add instruments too.
See you soon!
